Questions gym owners ask
Do we need a clinician or medical director?
No. Every evaluation and prescription is handled by independent, licensed clinicians at Beluga Health. Your trainers never diagnose, prescribe, or give medical advice.
What do our trainers actually do?
What they already do well: program resistance training and coach protein intake, the two things that preserve muscle on a GLP-1. They are the partner to the medicine, never the salesperson.
Isn't muscle loss a risk on these medications?
A share of GLP-1 weight loss can be lean mass when there is no training. That is exactly why the gym matters: resistance work and adequate protein preserve it. Your service is the safeguard.
How do we get paid?
You are the seller of record. You buy the program at one published wholesale price and set your own retail price, keeping the margin. No payment changes hands for sending business.
Is it safe for our members?
Treatment is prescribed only where an independent clinician judges it appropriate after reviewing a member's health history. Not everyone qualifies.
Which states can we launch in?
Wherever clinician coverage is live, which is expanding. Tell us your state on the partner form and we will confirm.
What does it cost the gym to run?
Nothing to set up and nothing monthly. The only charge is $50 per treatment, per month, on active programs. No clinician to hire, no software licence, no stock to carry and no minimum, so a month with no sign-ups costs the gym nothing.
Do our trainers give medical advice?
Never. Trainers introduce the program with a scripted line and nothing more. They do not assess suitability, recommend a medication, adjust a dose or answer a clinical question. All of that belongs to an independent licensed clinician at Beluga Health.
Will members lose muscle on these medications?
Published evidence puts lean mass at roughly a quarter to two fifths of total weight lost without an active prevention strategy. Current guidance points to resistance training and 1.2 to 1.6 grams of protein per kilogram a day. That intervention is exactly what a gym provides.
Can we still sell supplements and coaching alongside it?
Yes, and it tends to work better together. A member on a program has a clearer reason to book training and buy protein, and the program gives your team an ongoing conversation rather than a January one.
What happens if a member is not eligible?
The clinician declines and the member is not charged. We place a temporary hold at checkout and release it if no prescription is issued. Nobody is guaranteed treatment, and you should be wary of any platform that suggests otherwise.
What risk do we still carry?
This is a narrower risk, not no risk. You do not prescribe, diagnose, dispense or hold patient health information, and you never buy, own or sell the medication, so clinical negligence, drug product liability and a health-data breach sit with the medical group, the pharmacy and us. What stays with you is your own business: your marketing, your staff and how you sell. Worth asking your broker whether your existing liability and cyber cover already respond to those. This is not legal or insurance advice.
